LIFE BE FREE has been bringing together financial and social players since 2022 to speed up a more inclusive energy transition in Belgium. Through roundtable discussions, the consortium explores innovative ways to scale up investments in energy innovation and make them more accessible to everyone.

Each year, the consortium organises a series of national and thematic roundtables in collaboration with public and private stakeholders.

Two national roundtables

An initial national roundtable (17 March) will identify the biggest challenges and sort them into specific themes. The insights gained there will then be further developed in smaller, thematic workshops.

In late 2025, a second national roundtable (11 December) will share key insights from the past thematic roundtables. Some promising new projects will be pitched and given the chance to move forward.
Thematic roundtable: reviewing premiums and pre-funding

An interactive session in which partners jointly develop recommendations for the government around premiums and their pre-financing in Belgium.
Thematic roundtable: social credit loans

Three interactive sessions exploring the role of social credit loans in accelerating energy renovations in Belgium, focusing on financing challenges and recommendations for inclusive and sustainable housing solutions.
Thematic roundtable: district renovations

Three interactive sessions on scaling up district-level renovations, in which professionals from different sectors explore together how to bundle projects, simplify procedures and make financing more accessible.
Thematic roundtable: renovating the rental market

Drie interactieve sessies over de uitdagingen en kansen binnen de Belgische huurmarkt om de energie-efficiëntie van renovaties te verbeteren, met aandacht voor financieringstekorten, gedeelde oplossingen en beleidsaanbevelingen.

Thematic roundtable: Energy Service Companies (ESCOs)

On 5 February, 10 March and 12 May 2026, we will organise three interactive sessions exploring the role of ESCOs in accelerating energy renovations in Belgium, with a focus on financing challenges and recommendations for inclusive and sustainable housing solutions.
Thematic roundtable: public buildings

On 5 February, 10 March and 12 May 2026, we will organise three interactive sessions focused on the renovation of public buildings, with particular attention to financing challenges and recommendations for efficient renovation of the public building stock.
National roundtable – Energy renovation: from directive to reality

On 22 April 2026, we will organise a national roundtable with the Belgian climate ministers to discuss how the regions translate European climate directives into concrete policy.
Closing event

On 17 September 2026, the closing event of the Life BE FREE programme will take place, reflecting on the project’s impact over the past three years and looking ahead to a second edition of the Life BE FREE platform.
